  • how to identify types of nonfiction and informational text through the use of patterns of text structure, visuals, author purpose, and other specific characteristics that can lead to reading and writing with more understanding and enjoyment.

  • modify existing lessons as well as create new and exciting lessons for children that meet the ELA CC standards. You don't have to reinvent the wheel.
  • motivate and select appropriate texts for children to enjoy while teaching them how to effectively read, analyze, and respond to nonfiction and informational texts.
  • break down nonfiction and informational texts into categories. This will enable participants of this class to utilize an organizational system to allow for clearer, more concise instruction.
  • take away from the class a variety of downloadable/printable documents as well as online resources for lesson design and reference.
